The work entails planting shrubs and trees, weeding, raking, watering, and mulching.
Positions are for independent contractors, paying $15/hour for a total of 40 hours for each position over the course of the summer ($600 total per position for season). These limited hours may be completed on a flexible schedule.
These positions are funded by a grant to the RMBG from the Lyons Community Foundation intended to support Lyons community members whose work has been disrupted by the pandemic. We strongly encourage applicants who have ties to the Lyons community and who have struggled to find sufficient work in the past year.
Some gardening experience is required, not necessarily professional. Passionate home gardeners are welcome to apply. This is an opportunity to contribute to a beloved community project while learning about native plants and sharing your knowledge. The RMBG aims to create an inclusive community where all perspectives and backgrounds are valued. Work will take place alongside volunteers, supervised by garden coordinator Garima Fairfax.
This position is moderately physically challenging. It requires bending, lifting, working outside in summer, and digging holes in rocky soil. Work at the gardens will be following COVID-19 precautions as recommended by health authorities for the safety of all.
