Public Garden Tour - Look for Tours to Begin Again in Spring 2022

Free and open to all!

Our first public tour in August 2021 was a success: We will hold more tours in spring 2022. There were about 15 people, all enthusiastic to hear about how we've arranged these Colorado native plants by ecological zones. Garima Fairfax told stories about Native American usage of some of the plants, how this beautiful site used to be the Foothills Mobile Home Park community until the 2013 flood, and also our future plans for more plantings. The garden was in full bloom, with thousands of bees on the Rocky Mountain beeplant and the giant hyssop, butterflies fluttering all around, and everyone got on their knees to take in the wonderful fragrance of the chocolate flower.

What: Tour the Rocky Mountain Botanic Gardens with its founder, Garima Fairfax.  Garima will introduce visitors to the different zones of the garden, each representing a different Colorado ecosystem. She will also highlight the plants in bloom and fruiting at that particular time of year and answer your questions about Colorado plants – in the wild and how to grow them at home. Garima has extensive experience as a botanical educator and knows just about every leaf and petal of this garden like a friend.

Details: Meet at the garden entrance. Tour will last approximately 1 hour. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Spring/Summer 2022 dates are to be determined.

Where: The Rocky Mountain Botanic Gardens is located near the intersection of Prospect St. and 4th Avenue, Lyons, CO. Park along the street, then walk a short way along the Bohn Park access path from the street corner. The Gardens will be on your right, with a little free library by the entrance.

For more information about the gardens, see our website at http://www.rmbg.org.

Plant Sale Fundraiser - See you in May 2022!

Our annual plant sale is back! This year we met at the RMBG patio and we sold an assortment of native plants in 4” pots, mostly perennial wildflowers.  Garden volunteers were on hand throughout the day to make recommendations and swap growing tips. A limited number of annual hanging baskets of brightly colored Million Bells were also available as well as colorful summer t-shirts printed with our Rocky Mountain Botanic Gardens (RMBG) logo. All proceeds from these sales benefit the RMBG.

Visitors were able to explore the Gardens while they shopped. We requested that all attending wear masks and practice thoughtful social distancing for the safety of volunteers & visitors. Payments will be accepted by cash, check, or credit card. The RMBG's main entrance is located along the path to Bohn Park from the corner of Prospect St. and 4th Ave, in Lyons. The closest parking is along Prospect or 4th.

Brighten up your garden and please some pollinators with beautiful, low-water Colorado native plants while supporting our efforts to build a public garden in Lyons!

Annual Spring Plant Sale in May

posted Dec 12, 2018, 11:11 AM by Deirdre Daly   [ updated Apr 27, 2021, 3:58 PM by Elizabeth Ekstam ]

We have an annual plant sale one weekend every May, and we carry an incredible variety of plants that do well in the front range of Colorado. We will now be holding our sales onsite on the RMBG patio (no longer held at the Steamboat Mountain Foods location).

We offer native plants and hanging baskets, plus knowledgeable volunteers to help answer your gardening questions.

We also sell colorful summer t-shirts printed with our Rocky Mountain Botanic Gardens (RMBG) logo. All proceeds from these sales benefit the RMBG.
