Saturday, September 10, 2022, 9 am - noon The Rocky Mountain Botanic Gardens invites you to join us the morning of Saturday, September 10, 2022, 9 am – noon, for an open house with a public tour, plant shopping, garden advice, and generally enjoying the gardens as a community. Garden director Garima Fairfax and volunteers will be on hand to talk plants and show visitors around all morning. Formal tour will start at 10 a.m. focusing on late-season blooms and wacky seed pods. Tour is free, and visiting the gardens is always free. We will be selling t-shirts and a small selection of Colorado-native perennial wildflower plants - plant now for more color and happy pollinators next year. The RMBG (www.rmbg.org) is located near the corner of 4th Ave and Prospect St. in Lyons. Park on the street and walk in on the Bohn Park access path. The plants for sale will include: Prairie coneflower (Ratibida columnifera) Anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) Prairie sage (Artemisia ludoviciana) And we'll be selling bouquets, after pruning sunflowers out of the way of visitors' paths and in our home gardens. Our first public tour in August 2021 was a success: We will hold more tours in 2022. There were about 15 people, all enthusiastic to hear about how we've arranged these Colorado native plants by ecological zones. Garima Fairfax told stories about Native American usage of some of the plants, how this beautiful site used to be the Foothills Mobile Home Park community until the 2013 flood, and also our future plans for more plantings. The garden was in full bloom, with thousands of bees on the Rocky Mountain beeplant and the giant hyssop, butterflies fluttering all around, and everyone got on their knees to take in the wonderful fragrance of the chocolate flower. Public Garden Tour Free and open to all! What: Tour the Rocky Mountain Botanic Gardens with its founder, Garima Fairfax. Garima will introduce visitors to the different zones of the garden, each representing a different Colorado ecosystem. She will also highlight the plants in bloom and fruiting at that particular time of year and answer your questions about Colorado plants – in the wild and how to grow them at home. Garima has extensive experience as a botanical educator and knows just about every leaf and petal of this garden like a friend.
